Patient's experience with us
We asked one couple of our patients from Ireland to share their journey with us so you get a better idea what to expect from a patient's perspective.
"So we decided to go abroad for IVF treatment as we had two failed rounds here in Ireland and as well as being so expensive we felt we needed a fresh change and a different clinic. Our one in Dublin was so busy and rushed. Appointments were hard to get and sometimes even getting them to return calls was difficult. We were completely stressed and negative after it all."
My husband wasn't very keen on IVF as he thought there would be a lot of travel and that it would all be very expensive and stressful. It turned out to be completely the opposite because of help the girls at Medistella.
We are a very private couple and even though our families know now our baby was born through IVF we never discussed it with them at the time. It was private to us especially after our previous failed attempts. We didn't want the extra pressure of people knowing and hoping and then having to share maybe more disappointment with them.
We didn't know where to start. I had read a lot on the forums about clinics in Prague where other couples had great success but where would be best? Who would answer any questions we had? Would the language difference be a barrier? It was actually our Consultant who first mentioned Medistella to us. We researched them and decided to meet with Anna and Michaela when they came to Ireland.
It turned our to be a great decision.
Every question we possibly had they could answer. Every fear we had they understood. They offered us invaluable advice, different clinics, different procedures, the time frame, the costs, even advice on travel and where to stay. We decided to go ahead and have a Skype consultation with the doctor, which the girls organised and had passed along our information so no time was wasted.
Having met the girls from Medistella face to face and seeing how professional and kind both they and the clinic were we chose we decided to move ahead. It could not have been simpler. It seems crazy to say but it was much less stressful than our experience in Ireland. My consultant here did all the scans and blood work and any questions were always answered immediately by email or phone. I was never made to feel silly for asking. All my perscriptions were emailed or faxed to me and filled by my GP.
The cost was also a factor for us. IVF is so expensive in this country and there are lots of hidden extras.
"I felt everyone I dealt at Medistella and our clinic were very conscious of this and everything was explained from the beginning. Even including flights and accommodation it was still half the price of doing it here in Ireland."
I found the Skype conversation a bit strange. I think I was just anxious in case I forgot to ask anything but Dr Jan put me at ease, answered all of our concerns and stated the facts. He never tried to sugar coat the truth but he was positive and encouraging and we knew they would do their best to get us our longed for baby and 11 months after the day we had first met Anna and Michaela in Ireland we got our miracle baby. We can never thank any of them enough.
I personally would recommend IVF abroad, I know it's not for everyone but we found it so straight forward and easy. When we arrived at the clinic we were so relieved as it was clean and state of the art. These people knew what they were doing and we felt safe with them. The procedure itself took no time and we flew home two days later having had a lovely break in Prague. Everthing went completely smoothly and according to plan. Each step was explained to us even before we arrived."
